“Main kyu haaru? Main Rohit Sharma hu”- Twitter erupts as David Miller’s unbeaten ton goes in vain; India seals series by 16 runs
IND vs SA
Had South African batters fired up from the very start, the match would have been a thrilling one. David Miller‘s ton had gone in vain as India defeated South Africa in the second T20I to clinch the series at home for the first time. The Proteas failed to add 16 more runs while chasing a huge target of 238 and eventually lost the match by 16 runs on Sunday, October 2 at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati.
India was asked to bat first and Suryakumar Yadav‘s blitzkrieg of 61 runs off 22 balls with crucial contributions from KL Rahul (57), Rohit Sharma (43), Virat Kohli (49*) and Dinesh Karthik (17) propelled Men in Blue’s score to a monstrous 237/3 in their 20 overs.
South Africa didn’t get to a flying start as they lost opener Temba Bavuma in the second over on a duck off Arshdeep Singh’s ball. No.3 batter Rilee Rossouw too departed on duck, bowled by Arshdeep again.
Aiden Markram tried to play a quick knock of 33 runs off 19 balls (with four fours and a six) but Axar Patel bowled him out. This happened in the seventh over. Patel bowled in the middle and it turned away. Markram looked to go over covers but got an inside edge. It hit the stumps just when the partnership with de Kock was building.
But Quinton de Kock played an unbeaten knock of 69 runs off 48 balls with three fours and four sixes. He played the role of a supporter of Miller. Miller smashed eight fours and seven sixes to score 106* runs in 47 balls at an impressive strike rate of 225.53.
India now sealed the three-match T20I series by 2-0, securing the first ever bilateral series win against South Africa at home.
