Needless to say that the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are dominant at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru- their home ground. And when they locked horns with Lucknow Super Giants on Monday (April 10), it must have been a sublime experience for the spectators, for they saw three RCB stars hammering half-centuries and sending the ball over the boundary rope.
Lucknow bowlers faltered in front of the three RCB giants- Virat Kohli, skipper Faf du Plessis, and Glenn Maxwell. After winning the toss LSG skipper KL Rahul chose to field first, which proved to be a bad decision.
Right from the get-go, Kohli and du Plessis ruled. The duo stitched a 96-run stand for the first wicket, with Kohli slamming his half-century which made him the second player after Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) Ruturaj Gaikwad to smash a half-century against all the current Indian Premier League (IPL) teams.
Kohli’s knock ended when Amit Mishra‘s short ball made the former RCB skipper go for a pull shot but did not get the desired height. The ball landed straight in the hands of Marcus Stoinis at deep mid-wicket. The 34-year-old departed after a well-made 61 runs from 44 balls, with five boundaries and an equal number of sixes, at a strike rate of 138.64.

Kohli’s dismissal did not affect RCB’s run flow a bit. The rein to convert the fiery start into a mammoth total was perfectly handled by skipper Faf du Plessis and Aussie big fish Glenn Maxwell.
Both the batters remained unbeaten till the last over but Mark Wood had trapped the Aussie on the fifth ball in that over. Du Plessis’ 79*-run from 46 balls had five fours and five sixes and he batted at an incredible strike rate of 171.74. Glenn Maxwell also completed his half-century and ended his knock after plundering three boundaries and six maximums, batting at a humungous strike rate of 203.45.
Kohli, du Plessis, and Maxwell’s knocks saw RCB posting 212/2 on their scoreboard. Only two LSG bowlers could grab wickets; Mark Wood and Amit Mishra got one each. LSG have a huge task at hand and now all eyes will be on the West Indies hard-hitters, Kyle Mayers, and Nicholas Pooran’s innings.
