Gujarat Titans (GT) posted a huge 207/6 in their 20 overs on the back of Shubman Gill’s half-century and two scintillating innings, from David Miller and Abhinav Manohar, not to forget Rahul Tewatia’s sixes to give nice finishing touches. Gujarat added over 70 runs in the last few overs against Mumbai Indians‘ (MI) lackluster death bowling on Tuesday (April 25) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

After choosing to bowl first, Mumbai drew the first blood by getting rid of opener Wriddhiman Saha in the third over. Then Piyush Chawla gave two wickets at regular intervals. He first dismissed Hardik Pandya (13 off 14), then got rid of Vijay Shankar (19 off 16). But prior to Shankar’s dismissal, it was Gill who headed back to the hut right after slamming his half-century.

Gill reached his half-century when Kumar Kartikeya’s full toss delivery made Gill mistime his shot and the ball traveled straight to Suryakumar Yadav at the boundary. Gill played 34 balls to score 56 runs, with seven fours and a six.

It would be wrong to say that GT were tethering after Gill’s dismissal, for David Miller entered and did what he is known for. He started sending balls out of the park and was on the cusp of reaching his half-century when Jason Behrendorff dismissed him in the last over. But the damage had already been done by the Proteas with his 22-ball 46-run knock, which had two fours and four maximums while batting at a huge strike rate of 209.09.

Like Miller, Mahorhar also batted at a 200-strike rate. His 21-ball 42-run knock had three fours and the same number of sixes but he had to depart in the penultimate over off Riley Meredith. And after his dismissal, Rahul Tewatia did the rest of the job by smashing three sixes, remaining not out on 20 off five balls to take Gujarat to 207/6 in their 20 overs.
