“Kohli and 82* in T20 is a love story”- Twitter goes into a frenzy after Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis’ exhilarating knocks upset arch-rival Mumbai Indians
Fans wanted to watch how Virat Kohli would play Jofra Archer, but neither Kohli nor du Plessis broke a sweat in front of Archer, who seemed helpless.
Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli
The IPL fans were waiting for tonight’s match. The two arch-rivals Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) locked horns on Sunday (April 2) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru and as expected, Faf du Plessis and co. ruled at their home ground. RCB won the one-sided match against Rohit Sharma‘s men by eight wickets with 22 balls left.
Chasing a challenging target of 171, RCB had a great start, for they stitched a huge 148-run stand for the first wicket with both the batters scoring their respective half-centuries. Fans wanted to watch how Virat Kohli would play Jofra Archer, but neither Kohli nor du Plessis broke a sweat in front of Archer, who seemed helpless. In fact, Archer conceded 33 runs in his full quota of four overs without scalping a wicket.
Only two bowlers bagged wickets. Both Cameron Green and Arshad Khan got one each, but they were of no value because RCB had reached a point where defeating them seemed impossible.
Faf du Plessis slammed 73 runs from 43 balls, with five boundaries and six maximums at a strike rate of 169.77, before Arshad Khan got rid of him in the 15th over. His wicket did no harm to RCB, for Virat Kohli was still at the crease, and in the blink of an eye, RCB chased down the target in 16.2 overs. Kohli remained unbeaten, scoring 82 runs from 49 balls with six boundaries and five sixes at a strike rate of 167.35.

Notably, it was RCB’s fourth consecutive victory over Mumbai Indians. Last year, when the five-time champions ended at the bottom of the points table, they lost both of their matches against RCB.
Earlier in the match, Mumbai batters displayed a flop show, except for the 20-year-old Tilak Varma. If it weren’t for Varma, Mumbai would have succumbed badly. But Varma’s unbeaten 84 runs from 46 balls with nine boundaries and four sixes helped Mumbai reach 171/7 in their 20 overs. Though this match was a one-sided one, fans loved Varma’s show with the bat and the exhilarating knocks from Kohli and du Plessis.
