Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) opener Harry Brook became the first batter to score a century in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) when the team locked horns with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Friday (April 14) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. His knock, combined with quickfire from Aiden Markram and Abhishek Sharma helped the team reach 224/4 in their 20 overs.

After winning the toss, KKR decided to field first. Brook and Mayank Agarwal came out to open the innings but soon, the latter was sent into packing by Andre Russell in the fifth over. Rahul Tripathi followed Agarwal to the dugout in the same over.

But Brook and Aiden Markram steadied the ship till the 13th over when Varun Chakravarthy dismissed the SRH captain who had completed his half-century from 26 balls, with two fours and five maximums at a strike rate of 192.31. Markram heaved the ball across the line but did not have a good connection. It fell onto the hands of Russell at deep mid-wicket.

The English batter remained unbeaten on 100 runs from 55 balls with 12 fours and three maximums at a strike rate of 181.82. Heinrich Klaasen‘s two fours and a six took the team to 228/4 in their 20 overs.
