Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan was adjudged LBW in the 11th over bowled by Shadab Khan at Adelaide Oval on Sunday [November 6] in a crucial match that’ll decide the fourth semi-finalist of the T20 World Cup 2022.
On the first ball he faced, Shakib stepped out to flick it off Shadab but missed it and the on-field umpire raised his finger. When Shakib went upstairs for review, it showed a large spike on the UltraEdge.
However, the third umpire chose to give Shakib LBW dismissal thinking the spike was due to the bat hitting the ground, despite many replays which showed the bat was off the ground. Shakib stood in disbelief and headed back to the hut.
This is a virtual knock-out game between the two countries. The team that’ll win the match will go to the semi-final stage. Shakib’s wicket was big as in the end, Bangladesh posted just 127/8 courtesy of Pakistan spearhead Shaheen Afridi scalped four wickets.
Even commentator Ravi Shastri gave he opinion on the subject during the innings break. He said: “Which (the shadow) suggests that bat was in the air and there is a spike, so that ball has to hit the bat and nothing else. But, I think he will be a little disappointed, that it really turned the entire momentum of the game. Big player, big wicket, knockout game and when your captain is dismissed in that fashion, it has a bearing on the dugout.”
During the innings break, Shadab was asked about the dismissal of Shakib but the former gave rather a blunt response. He told the broadcasters: “So far so good. Bowlers have done their job. We assessed the conditions well. Hopefully batters do the same. Slower ones (are effective) for fast bowlers, and if you bowl slow as a spinner you will also get help. Umpires have it out, so it’s out (Shakib decision).”
