With the help of Hardik Pandya’s unbeaten 71-run knock and KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav’s 55 and 46 runs respectively, India were able to put a mammoth total of 209 against Australia in the first T20I on Tuesday, September 20 at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. But the Aussie batters, Cameron Green and wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade’s knocks helped their team lead the three-match T20I series by 1-0.
Australia openers Aaron Finch scored 22 runs off 13 balls while Green played a knock of 61 runs off 30 balls with eight fours and four sixes at an impressive strike rate of 203.33. But in the 11th over, Axar Patel trapped him with a full ball way outside off-stump. Green looked to slog-sweep but toe ended his shot and Virat Kohli grabbed it safely.
Steve Smith then scored 35 runs off 24 balls with three fours and a six before Umesh Yadav, who also played for India after a long time, sent him back. Umesh bowled a very full delivery outside off-stump and Smith had gone for a scoop but adjusted it late. He dabbed it away only to get an edge and keeper Dinesh Karthik caught it but the umpire’s finger was still down after the appeal. Rohit Sharma took it upstairs and Ultra-Edge confirmed it as a dismissal.
Tim David scored 18 runs off 14 balls and became a victim of Yuzvendra Chahal. Josh Inglis scored a 10-ball 17 runs with three fours before Patel bowled him out.
Wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade played an unbeaten knock of 45 runs off 21 balls with six fours and two sixes at an impressive strike rate of 214.29, helping Australia chase down the massive target by four wickets.
Patel scalped three wickets, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was very expensive, gave 52 runs in his four overs without a wicket. Umesh picked up two wickets while Chahal could get only one wicket.
