Colin Ackermann and Tim Cooper’s quick knocks helped the Netherlands post a decent target of 159 against South Africa on Sunday, November 6 at the Adelaide Oval. Both teams are playing their last match of the Super 12 stage. A win against the Dutch will take the Proteas to the semi-final stage.
The Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma won the toss and decided to field first. Dutch openers Stephan Myburgh and Max O’Dowd got their team off to a flying start as they scored 58 runs for the opening stand till Aiden Markram gave the first breakthrough by dismissing Myburgh in the ninth over.
Markram tossed up the ball on full, which Myburgh attempted to slog sweep but smashed flat, and it flew straight to the hands of Rilee Rossouw at deep mid-wicket. Myburgh departed after a 30-ball 37-run knock (with seven fours).
O’Dowd, meanwhile, scored 29 runs off 31 balls with a six and a four before Keshav Maharaj dismissed him when his flighted ball made O’Dowd loft it toward the deep extra cover region but smacked it to the hands of long-off fielder Kagiso Rabada.
Cooper became Maharaj’s next victim on the last ball of the 15th over. Maharaj bowled a slower one on the leg, Cooper tried to sweep but top-edged it, and ended up giving a catch to keeper Quinton de Kock at the leg sleep region. Cooper went to the hut following his 35 runs off 19 balls, studded with two fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 184.21.
Bas de Leede was dismissed on the delivery of Anrich Nortje in the 18th over. Nortje’s fullish ball made de Leede make room to play, but the ball smashed into the stumps.
Ackermann, meanwhile, played a quickfire of 41 runs off 26 balls with three fours and two maximums at a strike rate of 157.69. He remained not out and anchored the innings till it reached a decent 158/4 in their 20 overs. Nortje picked, and Markram picked one wicket, while Maharaj scalped two.
