“Didn’t even try Hooda in the World Cup!”- Twitter reacts as Deepak Hooda sets massive record after outclassing the Kiwis
India beat New Zealand by 65 runs in the 2nd T20I
Team India bowled out the Kiwis on 126 to win the second T20I by 65 runs at the Bay Oval at Mount Maunganui on Sunday (November 20). The Black Caps failed to chase down the target of 192 despite their skipper Kane Williamson‘s half-century knock. Deepak Hooda, who was dismissed for a duck, went on to scalp four wickets to set a massive record.
The reason behind the 192-run target was Suryakumar Yadav’s unparalleled superiority with the bat. He walked out to bat at No.3 and went on to show off his 360-degree avatar from the very first ball. He toyed with the Kiwi bowlers to score an unbeaten 111 runs off 51, which had 11 fours and seven maximums; he has adjudged the Player of the Match.
New Zealand faltered from the start when they lost their opening batter, Finn Allen, for duck off Bhuvneshwar Kumar on the second ball of the innings. The other opener Devon Conway departed from Washington Sundar’s delivery in the ninth over.
Glenn Phillips scored 12 runs from six balls before Yuzvendra Chahal trapped him in the 10th over. Daryl Mitchell and James Neesham scored 10 and zero, respectively. Mitchell Santner faced the same result of going off low score when Mohammad Siraj dismissed him in the 16th over; India had total control of the match by then and knew that they are inching toward a big win.
They just needed to dismiss the big fish, Kane Williamson, in the Kiwi’s batting-order, which Siraj ended in the 18th over with a full toss. Williamson attempted to whip it away but it hit the inside edge and went on to rattle the stumps. The Kiwi skipper was rather slow with his 52-ball 61-run knock, which included four boundaries and two sixes at a strike rate of 113.31; his half-century came off 48 balls.
In the penultimate over, Deepak Hooda scalped three wickets by dismissing Ish Sodhi on the second ball, and Tim Southee on the third ball. He could not complete his hat-trick, however, he trapped Adam Milne on the fifth ball. He registered the best bowling between India and New Zealand with his figures of 2.5-0-10-4.
India outclassed the host; first with Suryakumar’s blazing ton, then with Hooda’s four-fer. After the win, they are leading the three-match series 1-0 with the final game to be played on Tuesday. The first match was abandoned due to rain.
