In the match between Gujarat Giants and Delhi Capitals, the former put on 147/4 in 20 overs on Thursday (March 16) at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Laura Wolvaardt and Ashleigh Gardner played half-century knocks to guide the Giants to that target.

After winning the toss, DC skipper Meg Lanning opted to bowl first. Giants openers Sophie Dunkley and Woolvaardt walked in to start the innings but the former’s innings were short-lived owing to Marizanne Kapp in the first over itself.

Later, Woolvaardt stitched a stand with Harleen Deol. Deol played a slow knock of 31 runs off 33 balls with four boundaries before Jess Jonassen dismissed her in the 10th over. Jonassen bowled it on short which Deol tried to make room to cut. But as she missed the ball, keeper Tania Bhatia quickly caught it. After Lanning took the review, the third umpire confirmed the dismissal.

Then Woolwaardt and Gardner took the responsibility to steer the team to a good target without losing wickets quickly. Woolvaardt batted at a strike rate of 126.67, which included six boundaries and a maximum, scoring 57 runs off 45 balls. But she was stopped by Arundhati Reddy in the penultimate over when her yorker made Woolvaardt slog it but missed it completely after which the ball rattled the stumps.

Gardner scored an unbeaten 51 runs off 33 balls with nine fours, at a strike rate of 154.55, taking Gujarat Giants to 147/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Among the bowlers, Jess Jonassen scalped two wickets, while Marizanne Kapp and Arundhati Reddy picked up one each.
