India’s veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin became the second Indian to scalp 100 Test wickets against Australia. He reached the feat after scalping the wicket of Alex Carey on Day 1 of the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on Friday (February 17) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

Ashwin first trapped Marnus Labuschagne on the fourth ball of the 23rd over and then went on to dismiss Steve Smith for a duck off two balls on the sixth ball. In the second session, the 36-year-old dismissed Carey when the latter gave away his wicket owing to an easy catch at slip by Virat Kohli.

Before Ashwin, India great Anil Kumble became the first bowler to take 100 wickets against Australia. Ashwin, who has now 100 wickets, will soon overtake Kumble’s 111 scalps.
