“Another boring day loading”- Twitter reacts as Shardul Thakur and other bowlers restrict Zimbabwe to just 161 in 2nd ODI

In the second One Day International between India and Zimbabwe, the latter scored a mere 161 as their batsmen couldn’t get past the Indian bowlers. The 2nd ODI of the three-match ODI is taking place on August 20 at the Harare Sports Club in Zimbabwe.

India won the toss and opted to bowl first. Once again Zimbabwe’s top order collapsed quickly like the first ODI.

Openers Takudzwanashe Kaitano and Innocent Kaia walked out to bat and Mohammed Siraj gave the Men in Blue the first breakthrough by dismissing Kaitano. Soon in 12th over, Shardul Thakur dismissed Kaia for 16 runs off 27 balls which included two fours. In that same over, Thakur dismissed Zimbabwe skipper Regis Chakabva who had scored two runs off five balls.

Wesley Madhevere could score only two runs before Prasidh Krishna sent him back. Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Sikandar Raza for 16 runs off 31 balls. But Sean Williams played 42 balls to score 42 runs which also included three boundaries and a six. In 27.6 overs, Deepak Hooda was bowling and a full and flighted delivery around off made Williams go for a slog sweep but he failed because of less power and timing. The ball flied down to the deep square leg where Shikhar Dhawan grabbed a simple catch after which he celebrated his trade-mark thigh-five celebration.

After Williams’ wicket, other batters failed to score two-digit score except for Ryan Burl who played 47 balls to score an unbeaten 39 runs with three fours and a six.

Luke Jongwe got out on 6 runs off Thakur’s over, Brad Evans scored nine rune, Victor Nyauchi was sent back with a golden duck due to a run-out while Tanaka Chivanga too became a victim of run-out.

At the end, Zimbabwe could give a target of 162 runs only. They were bundled out in just 38.1 overs. While Thakur claimed three wickets, Siraj, Krishna, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Hooda scalped one wicket each.
