“A choker is always a choker”- Twitter goes berserk as India qualify for the semi-final after Netherlands overthrow South Africa

Netherlands beat South Africa by 13 runs

In the first thriller of Sunday at the Adelaide Oval, Netherlands knocked South Africa out of the tournament by 13 runs, which in turn helped India qualify for the semi-final. Netherlands produced extraordinary bowling in front of which the Proteas batter couldn’t even reach the 30-run mark.

After a good start, Collin Ackermann’s late cameo helped the Dutch post a decent total of 158/4 in their 20 overs. Ackerman remained unbeaten with his 26-ball 41 runs, while Tim Cooper also played a quickfire of a 19-ball 35 runs.

During the chase, South Africa lost their opener, Quinton de Kock, in the third ball off Fred Klaassen’s length ball. De Kock stepped out to cut it but missed; the outside edge gave a catch to keeper Scott Edwards sending de Kock for 13 runs off 13 balls.

Temba Bavuma failed with his bat, scoring just 20 runs off 20 balls before Paul van Meekeren sent him in the sixth over. Meekeren’s full ball was directed to Bavuma’s pad, who looked to flick it but missed; the ball ended up shattering the stumps.

The centurion of the Proteas in this World Cup, Rilee Rossouw, smashed two fours to score just 25 runs off 19 balls when Brandon Glover dismissed him in the 10th over. Glover bowled a shorter one in the middle, Rilee looked to pull it but mistimed it. It went toward the deep square leg where Max O’Dowd grabbed a nice catch.

Aiden Markram played 13 balls to score 17 runs, only to give away his wicket to Klaassen in the 13th over. The length ball made Markram whip it toward the led side, but he closed the face of his bat, the ball went off the leading edge toward the short cover, where Stephan Myburgh grabbed a fine catch.

David Miller had a below-par show when he departed on 17 runs off 17 balls while facing Glover in the 16th over. Miller looked to pull a short ball over the short fine leg. But Roelof van der Merwe ran back and grabbed a nice catch. It was then half of the Proteas batters headed back to the pavilion.

In the same over, Glover dismissed Wayne Parnell on duck. Two overs later, de Leede dismissed Heinrich Klaasen, who scored 21 runs off 18 balls. The Proteas played dull cricket at this stage, and paid for it in the end when the Netherlands knocked them out of the tournament by 13 runs.
