“Our bowling exposed yet again”- Twitter reacts as Mehidy Hasan’s determined knock against lackluster bowling snatches victory from India
Bangladesh beat India by one run
This match will be remembered in near future in Bangladesh’s history as one of the best matches they have played. When India needed one wicket to win, Mehidy Hasan stayed glued to the crease to steer his team to one wicket victory on Sunday (December 4) at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium in Dhaka.
After winning the toss, Bangladesh skipper Litton Das chose to field first. They were able to restrict the Indians to just 186 despite KL Rahul‘s 73-run knock. Shakib Al Hasan was the reason behind the felling of Indian wickets.
Chasing the target, Bangladesh openers Najmul Hossain Shanto and Litton Das walked out to bat first but the former’s inning was short-lived when Deepak Chahar dismissed Santo for a golden duck. Bangladesh lost their next batter Anamul Haque (14 off 29) in the 10th over from Mohammed Siraj’s delivery.
Litton scored the most runs for his team with his 41-run knock from 63 balls but couldn’t complete his half-century when Washington Sundar in the 20th over dismissed Litton with a short ball. As the ball turned sharply, a slight edge gave away the catch to keeper Rahul.
Shakib Al Hasan played a 29-run knock from 38 balls but Virat Kohli’s stunning one-handed catch at covers dismissed Shakib. Mahmudullah then played a slow inning, scoring just 14 runs from 35 balls before Shardul Thakur dismissed him via lbw in the 35th over.
Bangladesh wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim played 45 balls to score 18 runs before Siraj bowled him out in the next over. Four overs later, debutant Kuldeep Sen scalped his maiden wicket by dismissing Afif Hossain. In the same over, he sent Ebadot Hossain back to the pavilion.
Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan showed’s calm reverie in the last overs and did the job for his team. India needed just one wicket to win, but Mehidy stayed glued to the crease, and so did Mustafizur Rahman by rotating the strike.
Bangladesh had many overs left, but runs were fewer, and slowly, they chased down the target to win the match by one wicket (26 balls left). They are now leading the three-match ODI series by 1-0.
