India will be playing two Test matches in West Indies, starting Wednesday (July 12) in Dominica and they will be donning the jersey sponsored by online fantasy sports gaming platform Dream11. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has signed a deal with Dream11 as the title sponsor for three years. Dream11 replaced the online-educating platform brand BYJU in March 2023.
Earlier, BCCI in a release stated that Rohit Sharma and Co. will be wearing the jersey starting from the West Indies Test series. But the fans on Twitter, after seeing the players with the jersey just couldn’t stop mocking the design.
When India played the World Test Championship (WTC) Final, instead of the sponsor’s name, ‘INDIA’ was written on the front of the jersey which was well received by the fans. Global sportswear brand Adidas, India’s kit partner, designed the new jersey for the WTC Final. But now, India’s name has been replaced by the Dream11 logo, and when pictures of players’ headshots were shared online, it only irritated the fans.

Some fans wished Dream11 for the West Indies series instead of Team India. Some slammed BCCI for making players play for brands instead of the country. And of course, fans vent out their frustration by calling out the Indian board for signing a deal with a “betting app“, saying that cricket is only a business for them.
Meanwhile, after the rare break from international duties, Team India will be entering the new WTC cycle with the West Indies series. India has reached the finals of the first two showpiece events. In 2019, they lost to New Zealand while in 2023, Australia thumped them.
The second Test against West Indies is on July 20. After the two Tests, the two teams will be playing white-ball cricket series- three ODIs and five T20Is.
