“Clown management”- Twitterati slams BCCI for ignoring Sarfaraz Khan as a standby player for WTC Final
The list of standby players includes batters Suryakumar Yadav, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and pacer Mukesh Kumar.

Sarfaraz Khan
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday (May 8) announced three standby players for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final, which is scheduled to take place from June 7-11 at the Oval in London. The list of standby players includes batters Suryakumar Yadav, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and pacer Mukesh Kumar.
However, Sarfaraz Khan, who has piled up heaps of runs in domestic cricket wasn’t included in the 15-member squad nor as a standby player. He aggregated 556 runs in the 2022/23 Ranji Trophy season at a whopping average of 92.66, including three centuries. Suryakumar, on the other hand, had a below-par show when he was picked up by the BCCI for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, where he also made his debut in red-ball cricket.
Previously, former India head coach Ravi Shastri suggested Sarfaraz Khan as a replacement for injured KL Rahul. Rahul suffered a hamstring injury during the match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) and will undergo surgery for the same. As Rahul’s replacement, the selectors chose the young Ishan Kishan in case of a concussion emergency. Keeper KS Bharat will continue to don the wicketkeeping gloves.
“Bharat has to play now, especially if you play with two spinners in England. Conditions will matter a lot but you have to play your best keeper. After that, they need to have a batter who can keep wickets just in case there’s a concussion emergency. Sarfaraz walks into that team on the sheer runs that he has scored. If he can keep wickets then why not?” Shastri said as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.

Meanwhile, KL Rahul isn’t the only injury blow for India because pacers Jaydev Unadkat and Umesh Yadav are also struggling a bit and are closely monitored by the medical staff. Unadkat suffered a left shoulder injury, while Yadav picked up a hamstring injury during IPL.
