RCB vs GG

In the 16 league match between Gujarat Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore, the former posted a huge target of 188/4 with the help of Laura Wolvaardt and Ashleigh Gardner’s knock on Saturday (March 18) at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. RCB have to chase this target in order to stay alive in the tournament.

Gujarat captain Sneh Rana won the toss and opted to bat first. The openers, Sophia Dunkley and Laura Wolvaardt got the team off to a flier but Sophie Devine with the new ball stuck in the third over dismissed Dunkley (16 off 10 balls).

Then Wolvaardt and Sabbineni Meghana stitched a stand of over 50-plus-run. But Preeti Bose in the 12th over got rid of Meghana with keeper Richa Ghosh dislodging the bails.

A few overs later, Shreyanka Patil dismissed the big fish Wolvaardt. Wolvaardt had smashed two sixes and nine boundaries to score 68 runs off 42 balls at a brilliant strike rate of 161.90. Patil tossed the ball in the middle and Wolvaardt slogged it toward the deep mid-wicket but Preeti Bose grabbed it successfully.

After Laura Wolvaardt’s knock, Ash Gardner took the responsibility to take Gujarat to a respectable target, which she did with her 26-ball 41 (with six fours and a six). But Shreyanka Patil dismissed her off lbw in the penultimate over. Patil bowled it in the middle, which Gardner tried to smash but missed it. She went for the third umpire’s review but it ended up against her.

Then Dayalan Hemalatha and Harleen Deol did the rest of the job with their cameos to take Gujarat past 180. Amongst the RCB bowlers, Shreyanka Patil got two, while Sophie Devone and Preeti Bose got one each.
