Pakistani cricketer Umar Akmal, who has been out of action from cricketing activities for a long time, recalled the hard times when the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) banned him in 2020 after he breached its anti-corruption code. He revealed that at one point he did not have money to send his daughter to school.
“No one, not even my enemies, should have to face that the time I did,” said Akmal while speaking on ‘Had Kar Di’ on YouTube. “Allah tests a person by giving or taking something.”
He added that when he was going through that face, he got familiar with who his true friends were. “I could not send my daughter to school for eight months and my wife did not let me down during these tough days,” he added. Akmal then thanked his wife for supporting him during the tough phase. He further added that he is working hard so that he could get the chance to feature in the national team again.
Why Umar Akmal was banned by the PCB?
Umar Akmal last played a match for Pakistan in 2019. After he was found guilty of breaching the anti-corruption code and not disclosing important details, he was banned from any cricket-related activities for three years in February 2020. But he appealed to the court (Court of Arbitration for Sport) and so his ban was reduced to 12 months.
Akmal made his debut for Pakistan in an ODI match against Sri Lanka in August 2009. He later made his T20I debut a few days later, before making his Test debut in November of the same year.
In 16 Tests, 121 ODIs, and 84 T20Is, Akmal scored 1003, 3194, and 1690 runs respectively. He last played a match for Pakistan in a T20I against Sri Lanka.
