Venkatesh Prasad was unhappy with the fact that franchise T20 leagues have become more important than Test cricket.

Cricket South Africa recently announced a 14-man squad for their upcoming tour of New Zealand which only included 2 regulars. Due to all of their stars participating in the 2024 SA20, CSA had to select a team that had 7 uncapped players. 

Former Indian pacer Venkatesh Prasad was hosting a Q&A for his fans on X. When asked about South Africa’s team selection, he voiced his concern regarding the future of Test cricket. He claimed that the future of Test cricket was ruined due to the rise of T20 franchise leagues.

This isn’t the first time South Africa have risked their national cricket team for the SA20. They canceled an ODI series against Australia so that they could host their own franchise league. By canceling it, they forfeited vital ODI Super League points. 

Venkatesh Prasad claims India aren’t chokers, but agrees something is wrong

India have failed to win a single ICC event since 2013. They have reached semi-finals and finals, but have failed to win any of those tournaments. Due to this, the team has been branded as “chokers.”

So when Venkatesh Prasad was asked if the Indian team were chokers, he refused to agree with the branding. He said the team weren’t chokers, taking their recent triumphs in Australia, but agreed that something was wrong. 

India’s next chance to win an ICC trophy comes in 2024, when they participate in the 2024 ICC T20I World Cup. They won the inaugural World Cup in 2007, but have since failed to win it. Their last ICC trophy was the 2013 Champions Trophy.
