Gujarat Titans‘ (GT) Vijay Shankar, who replaced Hardik Pandya (as he is unwell right now) in the match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) did not waste this golden opportunity to display his exploits with the bat. Owing to his masterclass, Gujarat Titans posted a mammoth total of 204/4 in their 20 overs on Sunday (April 9) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Gujarat’s stand-in skipper Rashid Khan won the toss and decided to bat first. The openers gave a decent start to the innings, stitching 33 runs before Sunil Narine gave the first breakthrough by dismissing Wriddhiman Saha (17 off 17).

Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill then kept playing for a few overs, but Narine struck again to get rid of Gill who was playing a sluggish knock. He departed after a 31-ball 39-run knock, which also included five fours.

The next batter, Abhinav Manohar’s innings was short-lived courtesy of Suyash Sharma’s dislodging the bails. Then Sudharsan had to exit the field off Sunil Narine’s delivery after smashing three fours and two sixes, scoring 53 runs from 38 balls.

When Vijay Shankar entered the knock, he came out all guns blazing. In a blink of an eye, he reached his first half-century of this season, off just 21 balls. Fans rather expected to see David Miller feasting on the KKR bowlers. But it was Shankar who ended up shocking the fans by remaining not out for 63 runs from just 24 balls. His knock was laced with four boundaries and five maximums, and he batted at a strike rate of 262.50.

Owing to Shankar’s knock, Gujarat posted a huge total of 204/4 in their 20 overs. “I got injured during the 2019 World Cup and post that I didn’t do much to get back. I didn’t do well in IPL too. It’s important to keep doing well and so if that happens, I can get back to playing for the country,” Shankar said after his terrific knock.

Among the KKR bowlers, Sunil Narine scalped three wickets, while Suyash Sharma could get one. KKR have started their run chase and they have already lost two wickets for 28 runs so far. Mohammed Shami and Joshua Little grabbed one wicket each.
