When India played against West Indies on Day 2 at Roseau in Dominica, during the first Test, Virat Kohli, en route to his 36* runs, was heard accusing West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite of chucking. However, the ex-India captain did not report the same to the umpire.
This happened when the hosts’ all-rounder Rahkeem Cornwall left the field and Braithwaite had to deliver the ball himself in the 48th over. On the stump mic, Kohli was heard saying “Batta fenk raha hain (He is throwing bricks)” to Yashasvi Jaiswal.
It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time, someone questioned Braithwaite’s bowling action. Back in 2019, Braithwaite was accused of having an illegal bowling action but the International Cricket Council (ICC) assessed his action in Loughborough and found it to be legal.
Ishant Sharma wants Virat Kohli to score a lot of runs
This two-match Test series also marks the beginning of the 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle for India. In the previous cycle, Virat Kohli faced a lean patch and came out of it only earlier this year in Ahmedabad where he ended his century drought to score 186 runs.
When former India bowler Ishant Sharma was asked about the importance of Kohli in the new WTC cycle, he said how the 34-year-old needs to score runs as a senior player. Ishan also expressed his faith that Kohli undoubtedly will score runs in the new cycle.
“The most important thing is that if you are a senior player, you will first have to score your runs or else the juniors will also ask what is the point of you being a senior,” Ishant said during a discussion on JioCinema.
