Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) stand-in captain for the match against Rajasthan Royals (RR), Virat Kohli was fined for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct. Kohli was fined INR 24 lakhs for maintaining a slow over-rate against RR on Sunday. RCB also paid the price for maintaining the slow over-rate on the field as they were allowed only four fielders outside the thirty-yard circle in the 20th over of RR innings.
Apart from Kohli, his teammates were also fined for the offence. All of RCB players who were part of the playing XI, including the Impact Substitute, were fined INR 6 lakhs or 25 per cent of the match fee, whichever is lesser. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) informed about the same through a release on Monday.
“Royal Challengers Bangalore, who had named Mr. Virat Kohli as their Captain for their game against Rajasthan Royals, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Rajasthan Royals at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on April 23, 2023,” said BCCI in its release.

“As it was his team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Kohli has been fined Rs. 24 lakh and each member of the Playing XI, including the impact substitute, is fined Rs. 6 lakh or 25 percent of the match fee, whichever is lesser.”
Two in Two for Virat Kohli!
Although the team failed to maintain the over-rate, RCB registered their second win on the trot after the gut-wrenching defeat against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) a few days back. This was RCB’s fourth win of the season as they beat RR by 7 runs in a thrilling encounter. Before this match, RCB had defeated Punjab Kings quite comprehensively. With this win, RCB climbed to the fifth position in the Points Table. Also, this was the second win for Virat Kohli, the captain, in IPL 2023.
