India cricketer KL Rahul tied the knot with Athiya Shetty on Monday (January 23) in Suniel Shetty’s Khandala farmhouse. The marriage was attended by only family and close friends. And as gift giving is a custom in marriage, the newlyweds have been showered with expensive gifts. 

A report by India TV claimed that India skipper Virat Kohli gifted the couple a BMW car worth Rs 2.17 crore. Former India skipper MS Dhoni, who is a passionate biker, gifted them a Kawasaki Ninja bike worth Rs 80 lakh. 

Athiya’s father Suniel gifted them a house worth 50 crores. Other Bollywood stars, the likes of Salman Khan gave Athiya a Rs 1.64 crore Audi car, Jackie Shroff gave a Rs 30 lakh watch, and Arjun Kapoor gifted her a diamond bracelet worth Rs 1.5 crore.

The wedding was a highly guarded affair, not a glimpse of what happened inside could be seen. The families of the couple requested the guests to not share any pictures prior to the wedding. It was only in the evening of Monday when Suniel and Athiya’s brother Ahan Shetty came out to announce the news to the waiting paparazzi about the wedding and distributed sweets to them. 

“In your light, I learn how to love…Today, with our most loved ones, we got married in the home that’s given us immense joy and serenity. With a heart full of gratitude and love, we seek your blessings on this journey of togetherness,” Rahul and Athiya wrote on their respective social media handles by sharing their first official wedding pictures. Athiya was in a pink blouse and lehenga, while Rahul wore a cream sherwani. 

Suniel also took to Twitter to congratulate the couple: “A hand to hold and a reason to believe because sometimes the right place is a person and the ingredients love and trust… congratulations and Godless my bachchas @athiyashetty @klrahul.“

Rahul and Athiya met through a mutual friend in February 2019, and they started seeing each other more often. But the duo did not reveal anything to the public, even Suniel called those rumors ‘just media reports’. In December 2019, Rahul made it public when he posted a picture of them on Instagram. They made their first public appearance when they attended the screening of Tadap, the debut film of Ahan Shetty, in 2021.
