Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag
Virender Sehwag has played a major part of his career alongside Sachin Tendulkar, and they formed a dangerous opening pair. They have played vital roles in India’s win and have often talked about the jokes, and dressing room conversation between them after retirement.
Sehwag has again come up with a never-heard story related to Tendulkar. He recalled an incident when the duo batted against South Africa in the 2011 ODI World Cup in India. “We were playing against South Africa in the 2011 World Cup. I was singing songs while batting and he was also in good touch that time,” Sehwag told Ravi Shastri and Jatin Sapru on Star Sports.
“I was only singing because that helps me concentrate. This continued for three overs. After the fourth over, he came from behind and hit me with a bat. He said, ‘tujhe Kishore Kumar bana dunga agar aisi hi gaane gaata raha! (I’ll make you Kishore Kumar if you keep singing!),” Sehwag added, leaving Shastri and Sapru in splits.

In that match against South Africa, Virender Sehwag scored 73, while Tendulkar smashed 111 runs. However, India faced a middle-order collapse, and they were eventually bowled out on 296.
South Africa chased down the target with half-century knocks from Jacques Kallis (69 off 88) and AB de Villiers (52 off 39). It was the only defeat the MS Dhoni-led side faced in the tournament. In the final, the Men in Blue defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets to lift the coveted cup after 28 years.
That World Cup was Tendulkar and Sehwag’s last one. In that tournament, Tendulkar finished with 482 runs from nine matches (the second-highest score after Sri Lanka’s Tillakaratne Dilshan’s 500). Sehwag had collected 380 runs from eight matches.
