The Indian Premier League (IPL) rival franchises Texas Super Kings (TSK) and MI New York (MINY) played faced each other for the first time in the first edition of the USA’s Major League Cricket (MLC) on Sunday (July 17). TSK captain Faf du Plessis pulled off an incredible catch to dismiss the dangerous Tim David and turned the table in his side’s favor.

In the final over, MINY needed 21 runs and a slower delivery off Daniel Sams made David mistime the shot. The ball would have landed on the no man’s land but du Plessis ran toward it, dived, and took the blinder.

At the age of 39, du Plessis continues to display his incredible athleticism. Dismissing David helped TSK win the match by 17 runs. David could score 24 runs in 19 balls.

Faf du Plessis reveals his hunger for fielding

Talking about the match, Faf du Plessis won the toss and opted to bat first. With the help of opener Devon Conway‘s 74 off 55 balls, TSK put on 154/7 in 20 overs. Thanks to the bowling and fielding efforts of TSK, MINY could only reach 137/8 in their full overs and the highest run-scorer for them was opener Shayan Jahangir who added 41 runs off 38 balls.

“That’s me- I like fielding, the same with David Miller we always go to the hotspots and make it happen,” du Plessis said after the match. Undoubtedly, there will be several occasions in the league where du Plessis will again pull off those stunning catches.

After this match, TSK’s next assignment is against Seatle Orcas at Morrisville on Saturday, July 22. MINY will be locking horns with Washington Freedom at Morrisville on Monday (July 24).
