But during his ecstatic celebration, Warner ended up hurting himself which resulted in his leaving the field retired hurt.

He suffered from cramps prior to reaching the 200-run mark. But his emphatic celebration worsened it and he was spotted leaving the field by clutching his thighs with the assistance of the medical staff. As he couldn’t come to bat again, he might resume his game on Day 3.

The dynamic opener is destructive in white-ball cricket but when it comes to the red-ball format, his form has always been criticized. He hasn’t scored a century in a Test since January 2020, which he scored against New Zealand. But during his double-century knock, he crossed 8,000 Test runs, making him the eighth Australian to do so.

Notably, this is his third double century. The 254-ball 200 was decorated with 16 boundaries and two sixes at a time when they were playing under a scorching sun.

When David Warner finally ended his century drought in the Test, he also notched up his 45th international century. Even the legendary Sachin Tendulkar scored 45 out of his 100 international hundreds as an opener. In ODI, Warner scored 19 centuries and one in T20Is.

Warner also became the only 10th player to score a ton in his 100th Test. The other players to do so are- Gordon Greenidge, Colin Cowdrey, Javed Miandad, Alec Stewart, Joe Root, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Graeme Smith, Hashim Amla, and Ricky Ponting.
