India locked horns with Sri Lanka in the first of the three-match T20I series on Tuesday (January 3) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. India batted first, setting a target of 163 for the visitors.

At a time when even 150 looked difficult, Axar Patel and Deepak Hooda unleashed attacks in the last overs to steer India to 162 in their allotted 20 overs. Patel smashed four boundaries and a six to reach an unbeaten 31 from 20 balls. Hooda was the highest scorer for India with his unbeaten 41 runs off 23 balls that also included a boundary and four maximums. But at one point in time, he lost his cool with the umpire.

Watch the video below:

The incident happened in the 18th over of India’s innings. Hooda was batting at 28*. The fifth ball landed outside the off stump, and Hooda assumed it to be a wide one. He lifted his bat but stopped midway.

Hooda hoped that this will be considered wide, the umpires, however, did not deem it so. Hooda became angry and lost his cool and shouted at the umpire. Fans on Twitter are criticizing Hooda for this behavior, some even saying the all-rounder used foul words toward the umpire.

Meanwhile, the match did not end without a last-over drama. But it’s the Men in Blue who started the new year with a win by just two runs. Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka and pacer Chamika Karunaratne played a fighting knock, which was not enough to win the match.

India pacer Shivam Mavi and batter Shubman Gill were the debutants in this match. Although Gill couldn’t produce much in his maiden T20I, Mavi impressed everyone by taking a four-wicket haul by conceding 22 runs in his four overs.
