Indian squash player and wife of Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik, Dipika Pallikal won India another gold medal in the mixed doubles category of the squash tournament. She and her mixed doubles partner, Harinder Pal Sandhu, beat Malaysian duo, Mohd Syafiq Kamal and Aifa Azman in the finals by the score 0f 2-0.
Later while speaking to Trisha Ghosh of RevSportz, Dipika was asked if her husband would have any problem with her to play for the next Commonwealth games or Asian games. Deepika replied, “No, Of course not. He’ll be happy if I play for the next 20 years!” She added how Dinesh Karthik has always been her biggest supporter and how he pushed her back to playing after she gave birth to their twin children.
She also stated her break from the sport was a mutual decision between the two as they both wanted to start a family. Her partner, Harinder Pal Sandhu even hilariously said, “Hey Dinesh, please let her keep playing. We need medals.” Ghosh later revealed that the question was requested by none other than her husband, Dinesh Karthik.
Dinesh Karthik’s teammates support Dipika Pallikal as she wins her first Asian Games Gold
As Dinesh Karthik is in India, working as a commentator for the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup, he was unable to attend the finals. But his ex-teammates made sure they were there to support his wife. Washington Sundar and Rahul Tripathi, who are currently representing India in the 2022 Asian Games, had gone to support Dipika Pallikal and Harinder Pal Sandhu in the mixed doubles squash finals.
Dinesh Karthik thanked the duo for supporting the Gold Medalists and the Indian squad team. He was envious as he could not attend the finals but thanked them for taking out the time to go and attend the match. Washington later sent him a video of the winning moment as well, which he later shared on his X account.
