A few days before India faced Sri Lanka in the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup in Mumbai, Suryakumar Yadav was sent under disguise to chat with fans. He wore a long sleeve shirt to hide his tattoos, a black goggle, a baseball cap and a face mask while also carrying a camera. As he stepped out his room, Ravindra Jadeja failed to recognise the batter from Mumbai.

He stepped out of his hotel and went to interact with Mumbaikars. He spoke with them about why Marine Drive and Nariman point were iconic. He later started interacting with some fans to talk about cricket. He asked a fan which Mumbai player he would go to support, to which the first fan said Rohit Sharma. Another fan said she loved Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, but believes the team is balanced.

He later met a fan who said she was going to the match on 2nd November. When asked about Surya, she said he was a joy to watch. She always wonders how he plays the shots the way he does, calling him Mr. 360. Surya later revealed himself and took pictures with that fan.

Suryakumar Yadav’s World Cup campaign so far

Although he came in as a squad member, with low chances of being in the playing XI, Suryakumar Yadav found himself playing due to Hardik Pandya’s injury. After tearing a ligament in his ankle, Hardik Pandya was ruled out for minimum 4 matches in the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup.
