Hardik Pandya is the Mumbai Indians’ (MI) new skipper. He succeeded Rohit Sharma as the new skipper after joining his old team through an all-cash deal with Gujarat Titans (GT) last year. And on Sunday (March 24), the two sides are playing their first match of the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Last month, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra said that he wanted to see the Ahmedabad crowd boo Pandya for not continuing to don the GT jersey. Well, the Ahmedabad crowd did not forget anything and went berserk, welcoming the MI skipper but with loud boos when he came for the toss.

Tilak Varma gives his thoughts on Hardik Pandya becoming MI captain

Ahead of the GT versus MI clash, MI’s Tilak Varma revealed what he thinks about the captaincy change. Amidst this captaincy controversy, Varma said nothing against Pandya, under whom the 21-year-old made his India debut.

I debuted under him (Hardik) when I played for India, so it's going well. Hardik is the captain, Rohit is always there for Hardik and the team. We gel well together as a team.
Varma said during the press conference

Varma has played 25 IPL matches so far after making his debut in 2022. From these matches, he collected 740 runs at a strike rate of 144.53. His best knock was an unbeaten 84 runs which he scored last year. He has three fifties to his name.
