India and Australia women cricketers locked horns for the first time in India since 1984. Having never won red-ball cricket against the formidable Aussies, Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. played aggressively and clinched victory for the first time by eight wickets on Thursday (December 24) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
At one time during the game, Kaur displayed her furious avatar. This happened when Aussie skipper Alyssa Healy was batting with Annabel Sutherland standing at the other crease.
Kaur was bowling and on the third delivery, which she tossed up, Healy hit it straight back to Kaur. The Indian skipper thought Healy was still out of the crease, so she instantly aimed for the stumps.
The ball, however, deflected off Healy’s bat and headed toward the boundary ropes. On the next ball, Kaur got her revenge when she sent Healy back to the pavilion off lbw.

Harmanpreet Kaur says India did not want to play defensively against Australia
India played a Test match for the first time on home soil since 2014. Alyssa Healy won the toss and elected to bat first, but her team could post 219 in the first innings.
India played aggressively from the word go, scoring a formidable 406 and later, bundled out their opponents for 261 runs. After getting a 75-run target, the Women in Blue secured the victory.
Following the match, Harmanpreet Kaur said she did not want to play defensive cricket, and revealed why they sent Richa Ghosh (who scored her half-century in the first innings) at No.3.
We just wanted to play positive cricket, and that is why we wanted to put Richa Ghosh at No.3. We did not want to go back to defensive cricket and everyone knows how Richa plays. We just wanted to stick to the basics and do the right task.Kaur said at the post-match presentation
The two teams have locked horns in red-ball cricket 10 times. India could never secure a victory before, while the Aussies registered four wins with six matches that ended in draws.
