India’s new captain for the rescheduled fifth Test against England, Jasprit Bumrah, was awarded the Player of the Series because of his being the highest wicket-taker in the series. He scalped 23 wickets at an average of 22.47 including a five wicket haul. He was made the captain in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma who was ruled out of the test after testing Covid positive.
Bumrah is known for his brilliant bowling and is one of the mordern day greats but he has created a record in batting by scoring 29 runs in an over. In the over of England’s legendary bowler Stuart Broad, Bumrah scored 29 runs and broke West Indies’ legendary Brian Lara‘s record of 28 runs in an over. In the same over, Broad conceded 35 runs, the most in an over in Test cricket history. But India lost the Test which levelled the series 2-2 after Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow’s tons in the fifth day by seven wickets.
In the post-match presentation, Jasprit Bumrah was awarded the Player of the Match. When he went to took the medal, he only picked up the medal but not the champagne bottle. England cricket award the Player of the Match with a medal and a champagne bottle.

“That’s the beauty of Test cricket”: Jasprit Bumrah
In the post-match presentation, Jasprit Bumrah said:
“That’s the beauty of Test cricket, even if you have three good days. We fell short with the bat yesterday (Day 4) and that is where we let the opposition in to let the match slip away from us.”
“Ifs and buts can always be there. If you go back, if there was no rain in the first match, we could have won the series. But England played really well. We have drawn the series and both teams played very good cricket and it was a fair result,” he added.
