The T20I World Cup is underway with the two neighbors, Australia and New Zealand locking horns at the SCG. The hosts and defending champions Australia won the toss and put the opposition into bat. The Kiwis got off to a dream start, courtesy of a brilliant knock from Finn Allen.
Finn Allen, who is a debutant at the World Cup stage, showed no signs of any pressure. The opening batter smashed 42 off just 16 balls, which includes five boundaries and three maximums. His innings was brought to an end by a perfectly executed Yorker from Josh Hazelwood. It was a much needed breakthrough for Australia, as the Kiwis seemed to be running away with the proceedings, with Devon Conway playing a tidy hand from the other end as well.

Finn Allen gets off to a dream start, puts Australia on the backfoot
Finn Allen put Australia on the backfoot right from the word go. The youngster took 14 runs off the opening over, smashing a couple of boundaries and a maximum. Pat Cummins’ first over also went for a plenty, as New Zealand race to a score of 65 runs in the powerplay.
Finn Allen would have certainly fancied himself to get to a half century. He advanced down the wicket, and was completely cleaned up Josh Hazelwood who hit the bulls eye.
In fact, New Zealand’s total of 65 for one wicket in the powerplay was their highest ever in a T20I World Cup. The runners-up of last edition will look to put on a decent total on the board and start the tournament with a victory against the defending champions.
