India and Australia are playing in the first of the three-match ODI series at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Friday (September 22). During Australia’s innings, Mohammed Shami shattered Steve Smith‘s leg stump with a stunning inswinger.

This happened on the first ball of the 24th over. Smith was surprised by how the ball seamed in sharply to hit the inside edge and smashed onto the stumps.

Smith missed slamming his half-century. He could score 41 runs from 60 balls with three boundaries and a six at a strike rate of 68.33.

India vs Australia match so far

In the absence of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul is leading the team. Rohit and several other important players will be playing only in the third ODI.

Talking about the match, KL Rahul won the toss and opted to field first. Mohammed Shami gave the first breakthrough when he got rid of opener Mitchell Marsh in the first over. Australia lost the second wicket when Ravindra Jadeja dismissed David Warner in the 19th over. Warner was able to complete his half-century.

Australia then lost two wickets when Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed Marnus Labuschagne and when Cameron Green became a victim of a dramatic runout. Australia have scored 211/5 in the 43rd over.

After this ODI, the two teams will lock horns on Sunday (September 24) and Wednesday (September 27) for the second and third ODI. After this series, both the teams will gear up for the upcoming ODI World Cup in India, starting October 5 with the opening match between England and New Zealand. Both India and Australia will play their first game against each other on October 8 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
