MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lifted record-equaling five Indian Premier League (IPL) trophies by beating Gujarat Titans (GT) in the final on Monday (May 29) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This is such a dream comeback for them after a forgetful 2022 season. The hero of the match was CSK’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. He displayed nerves of steel in the final over against Mohit Sharma to slam a six and a four to chase down 171 in 15 overs and wrap up the match in CSK’s favor.

After the match, the watchers of the game waited for Dhoni’s most-match interview, to hear him speak, especially on his retirement. Speaking to Harsha Bhogle, Thala said that though this is the best time to retire, he would still try to play one more season but it depends on his body. The 41-year-old said he has 6-7 seven months to decide whether he will don the yellow jersey next year or not.

Circumstantially, if you see, this is the best time for me to announce my retirement. But the amount of love and affection that I have been shown, wherever I have been this year, I think, the easy thing for me to say would be, ‘Thank you so much,’ but the tough thing for me is to work hard for another nine months and come back and play at least one more season of the IPL,” Dhoni said.

But a lot depends on the body. I have 6-7 months to decide, and I think you know it’s something that will be more like a gift from my side. It’s not easy for me, but that’s a gift. The way they have shown love and affection, I think that’s something I need to do for them,” he added.

CSK won the toss and opted to bowl first. GT, with the help of Sai Sudharsan‘s 96 off 47, posted 214/4 in 20 overs. Due to rain, the game was halted for a long time and saw CSK getting a target of 171 as per the DLS method.

Though CSK got a decent start and almost everyone contributed quick runs (though Dhoni fell for a golden duck against Mohit Sharma), it was Ravindra Jadeja, whose’s six and a four sealed the victory for the Men in Yellow by five wickets.
