Chennai is former India cricketer Suresh Raina’s second home because while playing in the Indian Premier League, he had represented the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings in 12 seasons. The “Chinna Thala” as he is known in Chennai received a warm welcome when he received an honorary of doctorate from VELS University on Thursday, August 4.

In a video shared by a Twitter user, Raina was all smiles and could be seen receiving a rousing welcome from the Chennai fans.

On Thursday, Raina received his doctorate degree from the VELS University and shared multiple pictures on his social media during the 12th annual convocation ceremony.

He shared the post with the caption:

“I am humbled to receive this honour from the outstanding institution VELS Institute of Science Tenchnology, and Advanced Studies @VelsVistas @IshariKGanesh Sir.”

“I am moved by all the love and thank you from the bottom of my heart. Chennai is home and it has a special place for me,” he added.

Suresh Raina has represented the Men in Blue in 18 Tests, 226 ODIs and 78 T20Is. The all-rounder amassed 7,987 runs and scalped 62 wickets. Along with MS Dhoni, he announced his retirement from international cricket on August 15, 2020.

In IPL, he is known as “Mr. IPL”. He played a total of 205 matches and scored 5528 runs including a century and 39 half-centuries.

In 2022, he went unsold and he has now become a commentator for Star Sports.
