WATCH: Sandeep Sharma takes catch of the tournament to dismiss Suryakuamar Yadav in MI vs RR

Rajasthan Royals (RR) Sandeep Sharma might not be among the best fielders in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history but he certainly produced one of the best catches in the history of the tournament on Sunday. Sharma took a stunning catch to dismiss Suryakumar Yadav as RR were defending 212 against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 42nd match of the season.

Suryakumar Yadav was going strong and looking to finish things off in a hurry. The MI batter opened his account on the day with a six off the first ball and then notched up a half-century off just 25 balls. Yadav was picking the lengths and piercing the gaps with ease. However, on one occasion, Yadav could not time his unorthodox pull shot against Trent Boult.

As the left-arm pacer bowled an into-the-pitch delivery wide of off stump, Surya shuffled way too across and tried to clear the infield. However, there was not much timing behind the shot and hence the ball was in the air for a while. Sharma, who was at short fine leg chasing the ball, ran backwards and covered 19 metres. Eventually, Sharma made a full-length dive and pulled off a stunning catch to end Surya’s inning.

Fans were left stunned at this effort from Sharma. Praiseworthy tweets poured in from all corners for the veteran cricketer.

The effort goes in vain, unfortunately!

mumbai win

This once-in-a-while effort from Sandeep Sharma went in vain as RR could not close the game in their favour. Tilak Varma and Tim David proved too hot to handle for RR bowlers as the duo added 62 runs in just 26 balls to finish things off for MI. While Varma remained not out on 29 (21), Tim David was the showstopper with his 45* off just 14 balls. The Aussie giant tonked three massive sixes against Jason Holder to win the match for MI.
