Shreyas Iyer's remains not-out despite getting clean bowled

Shreyas Iyer steadied India’s innings on Day 1 against Bangladesh on Wednesday (December 14) at Chattogram. He reached 82* with 10 boundaries at stumps. He came into bat when India lost their top-order batters and were reeling at 112/4.

When it looked as if India can’t revive their innings, Iyer and Cheteshwar Pujara stitched a 149-run stand for the 5th wicket. At one time, Ebadot Hossain‘s delivery hit the bottom of the middle and leg stump and the bails lit up when Iyer was at strike. But he remained not out.

This is because even though the bail lit up, it didn’t fall which and is not considered a dismissal. This is rare and one of the most bizarre incidents in cricket.

Meanwhile, Iyer also became India’s all-format highest run-scorer in 2022 by surpassing Suryakumar Yadav. Iyer scored 1489 runs in 38 innings across all formats, while Surya scored 1424 runs in 43 innings. Virat Kohli stands third on the list with 1304 runs in 39 innings and the fourth is Rishabh Pant with 1278 runs off 41 innings.

India vs Bangladesh recap

Shreyas Iyer
IND vs BAN

Shreyas Iyer has scored 82* and will look to score a ton on Day 2. Cheteshwar Pujara missed his ton by just 10 runs, while Axar Patel became a victim of Mehidy Hasan Miraj. Iyer will walk out to bat on Day 2 with Ravichandran Ashwin to resume from 278/6.

Regular skipper Rohit Sharma is not playing the 1st Test after sustaining a thumb injury, so KL Rahul is leading the team. He opened the innings with Shubman Gill, and both couldn’t reach the 30-run mark, as they got out on 22 and 20, respectively. Virat Kohli, who played his first Test since his match against England in July, got dismissed for one run.

Rishabh Pant walked out all guns blazing, scoring 46 runs from 45 balls with two sixes and six fours. Pujara smashed 11 fours and scored 90 runs, while Patel could add just 14 runs.

Among the Bangladeshi bowlers, Khaled Ahmed scalped one, Mehidy Hasan Miraj got two, and Taijul Islam grabbed three wickets.
