Spider camera hits Anrich Nortje and knocks him down
During the Boxing Day Test between South Africa and Australia, an unusual incident was witnessed on the field. Proteas pacer Anrich Nortje was knocked down by a moving spider camera on Day 2 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Tuesday (December 27).
Nortje was fielding at the backward square when the camera collided with him and he fell to the ground. Although he hurt his left shoulder and elbow, he was lucky not to suffer any serious injury.

Cricket Australia’s host television broadcaster Fox Sports has apologized to Nortje and the Proteas team after the incident. CA has confirmed that the reason behind the accident was an error by the operator. That camera wasn’t used for the rest of the day but CA confirmed spider camera will be used on Day 3.
“I didn’t know what hit me, to be honest,” Nortje said. “So far so good. It just knocked the [left] shoulder and the [left] elbow. The elbow is a bit sore but otherwise seems to be okay. I’ll just monitor it and see how it goes with the [doctor].” Nortje also said that the spider cam “probably shouldn’t be unless for certain interviews or something. But I don’t think it should be traveling at head height. That’s my opinion.”
Australia vs South Africa match so far
Talking about the match, South Africa were bundled out for just 189 with two batters, Kyle Verreynne and Marco Jansen scoring runs past 50. Verreynne scored 52, while Jansen scored 59. Aussie star all-rounder Cameron Green‘s fifer was the reason behind the Proteas’ flat performance.
But Australia are in a better position as they reached 386/3 on Day 2 courtesy of David Warner‘s double-century. It seems Warner’s rough patch in Test has ended and he finally was able to play a fine knock. But he got retired hurt right after reaching his double century. He was celebrating his double ton and ended up injuring himself.
Another batter who got retired hurt was Green. Other than Warner, Steve Smith played an 85-run knock, while Travis Head and Alex Carey will be starting Day 3 from 48* and 9*, respectively.
