Chasing the 213-run target for the Mumbai Indians (MI) seemed difficult when the openers were playing. Their innings hardly made any impact but thankfully, Cameron Green came into the attack and turned into MI’s savior in the middle overs. But in the last over, when the match was heading toward a victory for the Rajasthan Royals (RR), Tim David slammed three back-to-back sixes to snatch the victory by six wickets on Sunday (April 30) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

David remained unbeaten on a brilliant 45 runs from just 14 balls at a whopping strike rate of 321.43. Out of his five sixes, as mentioned before, three came in the last over. Jason Holder was helpless when he delivered three full tosses to the dangerous man.

Alongside David, Tilak Varma merely played the role of a supporter. He would have faced criticism had MI lost the match. But David’s blistering innings shadowed all the performances, and at the same time, he forged an unbeaten 62-run stand with Varma.

Notably, Mumbai Indians, the five-time champions, pulled off fourth highest run-chase in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL), and that too in the 1000th game of the league. After the match, David admitted that for the team’s confidence, they needed to win the match.

“Yeah, you know we needed a win. The crowd was going crazy and supporting us. For our confidence, we needed such a performance. To be honest, we weren’t at our best, needed such a game to get back into the groove. To be honest, everyone needed to be targeted and reacted as they came,” David said after the match in the post-match presentation ceremony.

This was surely a glimpse of what this dangerous batsman can do for the Mumbai Indians. Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma celebrated his birthday and nothing but this carnage of an innings from David and a victory for the team could be a better present for him.
