“We have to prepare when the team is 10 for 3,” when Rohit Sharma praised Virat Kohli for saving India from difficult situations after worst start

Who would have thought India would get tormented by Australian pacers on a turning pitch at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai? After the Indian spinners wreaked havoc by bundling out the Aussies for 199 runs, the watchers of the game were foreseeing an easy win over India.
But Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood had other things on their minds. Starc drew the first blood by sending opener Ishan Kishan to the dugout in the first over for a duck.
In the blink of an eye, India lost two more batters when Hazelwood struck in the second over. Rohit Sharma became his first victim by departing for a duck on the third delivery, while Shreyas Iyer followed his captain to the dugout on the last ball for zero run.
That three wickets woke the sleepy fans, and they might have been expecting another fall of the wicket. The scoreboard read 2/3 in two overs. But the Aussie pacers had no answer in front of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. Both steadied the ship and shouldered the responsibility to bring India out of the miserable situation.
Throwback to Rohit Sharma’s praise of Virat Kohli
In 2021, India captain Rohit Sharma, in an interview with Boria Majumder, was talking about what the middle-order of the batting line-up should do even if three top-order batters fell for a few runs. What he said back then looks similar to India’s situation against Australia in the World Cup.

“We have to prepare when the team is 10 for 3,” Rohit said on Backstage with Boria (via ESPNcricinfo). However, Rohit also heaped praises on Virat Kohli for rescuing India from a precarious situation several times.
“Obviously, with the experience he has, he has bailed India out so many times from difficult situations,” Rohit had said and Kohli proved again. At the time of writing this article, Kohli and even Rahul are on the brink of taking India past the target.
