The 2024 IPL Auction had many shocks and interesting buys. Let them be Rachin Ravindra going for only ₹1.8 crore or Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins going for ₹20 crore-plus. One of the most interesting buys was Sameer Rizvi, who was purchased for ₹8.4 crore. 

Rizvi hails from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. The 20-year-old has played only 2 first class matches, 11 T20s and 11 List A games. With only 24 matches played in the senior level, how did the Chennai Super Kings buy Rizvi for a whopping ₹8.4 crore in the auction?

The reason he has been purchased for such a high price is because he is one of the best youngsters in the nation. His performances in the UP T20 League, where he scored 455 runs in 10 innings. He averaged 50.56 with the strike rate of 188.8, the highest in the top 10 run scorers. Along with that, 2 centuries, which included the fastest of the tournament. He also had the most maximums, with 35. 

He was integral to the U23 Uttar Pradesh team in winning the Men’s U23 State A Trophy. He captained the side and scored 454 runs in just 6 innings. Rizvi scored an important 84 off 50 runs in the finals, while chasing 341 against Uttrakhand

His coach, who is also his maternal uncle, said his nephew used to watch him play since he was a toddler. His father said his son was never interested in studying and always played cricket. Although he supported him in his cricket career, he was not happy that his son didn’t finish his high school.
