India’s Women’s Cricket Team and its players don’t need an introduction anymore. Although the Men’s Cricket Team enjoy more limelight than their female counterparts, Indian girls are also shining, not just in the country but overseas as well. While many are well familiar with the likes of Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur, Mithali Raj, and Jhulan Goswami, Shreyanka Patil is also making a name for herself. 

Bursting onto the scenes after getting signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Women’s Premier League (WPL), Patil has now landed a deal with a foreign franchise. The 20-year-old from Bengaluru will now play for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL)

As the inaugural edition of the WCPL is all set to take centerstage from 31 August, Amazon Warriors have signed Shreyanka Patil, potentially making her the first Indian women’s cricketer to play in the league. Patil is also set to become the first Indian cricketer to feature in an overseas league before making an international debut.

Is any other Indian cricketer than Shreyanka Patil playing in WCPL 2023?

As the squads for the three teams in the WCPL- Guyana Amazon Warriors, Barbados Royals, and Trinbago Knight Riders were announced on Friday, it was confirmed that Shreyanka Patil will be the only Indian featuring in the tournament. Apart from Patil, players from New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, and Ireland will also be taking part in the first edition of the tournament. 

The big overseas names who will be seen in action in the Caribbean are New Zealanders Sophie Devine, Suzie Bates, and Fran Jonas; Australians Laura Harris and Amanda-Jade Wellington; and South Africans Dane van Niekerk, Mignon de Preez, and Shabnim Ismail. 

The league kicks off on 31 August with the final fixture to be played on 10 September. Hayley Matthews (Barbados Royals), Deandra Dottin (Trinbago Knight Riders), and Stafanie Taylor (Guyana Amazon Warriors) will be the three captains.
