IPL 2023: Will MS Dhoni continue to lead CSK?
MS Dhoni
India’s one of the most adored and worshipped cricketers MS Dhoni turns 41 today. He has been the most successful captain of India because he holds the record of leading the team to win the trophy of all the major ICC tournaments- ICC T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup and Champions Trophy. Apart from captaining, he is also one of the best wicket-keepers of all time.
Dhoni called it quits from the international cricket on August 15, 2020 but continued to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He lead Chennai Super Kings to victory in IPL 2021. Not only in international cricket, but he is also the mastermind behind CSK’s four IPL titles.
When 2022’s IPL season arrived, Dhoni relinquished CSK’s captaincy just two days before the start of the 15th edition of IPL. This came as a surprise to all the fans and cricket lovers. Ravindra Jadeja was handed the reins of captaincy but he relinquished the position midway which saw Dhoni taking over the same responsibilities again.
CSK didn’t have a good start at all. It ended up being at bottom of the points table, just above its arch-rivals Mumbai Indians.
“Definitely”- MS Dhoni about IPL 2023
Since Dhoni has reached a point where his age might hinder his game, many fans and Indian cricket fraternity are wondering whether Dhoni will continue to play in IPL 2023 or not. In one of the matches, when Dhoni led CSK again in IPL 2022, he hinted that he will play IPL 2023.
“Definitely, because it will be unfair to not say thank you to Chennai. Won’t be nice to do that to CSK fans,” Dhoni said when he was asked if he would continue to play the IPL.
“Mumbai is one place where I got a lot of affection. Hopefully next year teams will be travelling and it will be an opportunity to say thank you to all the venues. Regarding me continuing the IPL, hard to say what’s going to happen in two years,” he added.
It will be interesting to see what Dhoni would decide of his IPL career in 2023. Since then, it remains a secret of whether Dhoni will don CSK’s trademark yellow jersey or not.
