Yorkshire racism tribunal can affect England’s T20 World Cup plans

Some English players could be asked to give evidence in the Yorkshire racism tribunal in October, just before the World Cup and this can put England’s T20 World Cup plans at risk. England will start their stint in the World Cup against Afghanistan which is scheduled to take place on October 22 but before that England’s leg-spinner Adil Rashid might be asked to give evidence in the court.

Last year, Azeem Rafiq had approached the justice by laying charges against Yorkshire cricket calling them insititutionally racist. The hearing is set to take place in October and Rashid, who had corroborated Rafiq’s allegations could be asked to give his evidence among other players. Rashid supported Rafiq’s claim on ex-England captain Michael Vaughan telling the Asian players at the club in 2009: “Too many of you lot. We need to do something about it.” Vaugham, though, denied the allegation.

Adil Rashid is the second-highest wicket-taker for England in T20I

Adil Rashid has been part of Yorkshire for past 16 years since making his debut in 2006. He was an integral part of the World Cup winning team in 2019. With 83 dismissals to his name in T20 cricket, Rashid is the second-highest wicket-taker for England. If he or any other players are summoned to the hearing, then they would be ruled out of the high-profile tournament. Matthew Hoggard, Tim Bresnan and Gary Ballance have also been charged with racism.

Now, the limited-overs head-coach Matthew Mott will find all these things chaotic because since his handling the position, England have lost three of their four series on home soil this summer. England is set to play seven T20Is next month against Pakistan prior to the tribunal. Then the team will face Australia in three matches in early October, where, the matches can clash with the Yorkshire racism hearing.
