Ex-Indian Head Coach, Ravi Shastri, said some senior players need to be phased out of the Indian side so that young players can be put in the team. In response to the statement made by Shastri, Yuvraj Singh didn’t hold back his words.
Yuvraj Singh, speaking to The Week, said there was no communication to the senior players about them getting replaced. He commented, “If Ravi Shastri says seniors should be phased out, then someone should also tell it to the seniors. The problem in India is the seniors are not told. They have given their heart and soul for the country and they deserve respect. You need to have that talk that ‘Look, it might be hard on you but maybe you might not be looked at.'”
Yuvraj Singh is also excited for Ajit Agarkar’s new role as the Chief Selector of the Men’s senior team. He is sure his old teammate can talk to senior players and keep contact with all players when it comes to replacing them.
Yuvraj Singh believes dropping Yuzvendra Chahal is a big mistake
In the same interview with The Week, Yuvraj Singh said it was a big mistake to drop leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. Yuvraj said while Kuldeep Yadav was doing well, Chahal would’ve been more dangerous on slower wickets.
He said they had to keep Chahal in the squad at the minimum, as leg spinners always do pick up wickets. Yuvraj added that by playing Hardik Pandya as the third seamer of the playing eleven, the balance would’ve still be kept with Chahal in the squad,
The 33-year-old spinner was in the 2019 ICC ODI World Cup, playing 8 matches. He was not dropped from the team in favor of an all-rounder like Axar Patel.
