The league matches of the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) are drawing toward the end. After a couple of matches, the playoffs will be played.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), after losing five consecutive matches suddenly woke up from slumber to make a mockery of the Gujarat Giants’ 180-run target yesterday.
The credit goes to Sophie Devine‘s superhuman effort. Devine single-handedly took RCB past the target to give her team a much-needed victory.
She would have become the first player to score a ton in the history of WPL if Kim Garth didn’t trap her at 99 runs. Devine exited the field after scoring 99 runs from just 36 balls after batting at a supreme strike rate of over 250.

How RCB and UP Warriorz can qualify for WPL playoffs?
But despite that effort, RCB’s trouble hasn’t ended a bit. They have to win their last league match game against Harmanpreet Kaur-led Mumbai Indians who are at the top of the points table. Even before that, Smriti Mandhana and her side’s fate will be decided during the match between UP Warriorz and Gujarat Giants.
If Gujarat beat UP, then RCB will stay alive but if UP win the game, then RCB will get kicked out of the tournament. RCB will also be hoping for UP’s other defeat against Meg Lanning-led Delhi Capitals. UP have to lose both of these games to make ways a bit clear for RCB to the payoffs. But even if UP lose the games, RCB will hope that the margins of those defeats are huge.
RCB will be grinding more and hoping more for the result of the other matches to go in their favor. Currently, they have an NRR of – 1.044 after seven games, while UP have – 0.114 after six.
RCB’s playoff qualification scenario:
- Beat Mumbai Indians in their final league match.
- Gujarat Giants beat UP Warriorz.
- Delhi Capitals beat UP Warriorz.
