‘Ye Bumrah-Vumrah kya karenge,’ says Parthiv Patel, recalling Virat Kohli’s words from the 2014 IPL while contemplating Jasprit Bumrah

‘Ye Bumrah-Vumrah kya karenge,’ says Parthiv Patel, recalling Virat Kohli’s words from the 2014 IPL while contemplating Jasprit Bumrah

Parthiv Patel, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah

Former Indian wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel revealed that he recommended Jasprit Bumrah to Virat Kohli during his time with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL in 2014, but Kohli did not take him seriously. Parthiv Patel had been following Bumrah closely since his early Ranji Trophy appearances with Gujarat. Jasprit Bumrah debuted in the IPL for the Mumbai Indians in 2013, but it was his breakout season in 2015 that earned him a call-up to the Indian team.

Bumrah has since developed into one of the best bowlers of the current generation in world cricket, excelling in all formats for India. He has also played an important role in Mumbai Indians’ recent title-winning campaigns. There is no doubt that had Bumrah heeded Parthiv Patel’s advice, he would have done a world of good for Virat Kohli’s RCB franchise.

His own hard work was what brought out the best in him: Parthiv Patel

Despite Parthiv Patel’s high regard for Bumrah, Patel revealed that Virat Kohli was uninterested in watching him in the IPL 2014. He went on to say that Bumrah has come a long way since underperforming in 2013, 2014, and that the Mumbai Indians’ support has helped the speedster have a fantastic season in 2015. He also stated that Bumrah’s own hard work had a significant impact on the development of his bowling in both the IPL and the international circuit.

“When I was at RCB in 2014, I told Kohli about this bowler named Bumrah.” Take a good look at him. ‘Chhor na yaar,’ Virat replied. ‘Kya Bumrah-Vumrah karenge?’ (Ignore it.) “What are such players going to do?),” Parthiv told Cricbuzz.

“Bumrah played Ranji Trophy for the first 2-3 years after being selected.” His first season was in 2013, and he did not have a good season in 2014. In 2015, it was so bad that there was talk of sending him back home in the middle of the season. But he gradually improved, and the Mumbai Indians rallied behind him. “It was his own hard work and such support that brought out the best in him,” he added.
