Former India U-19 captain Priyam Garg emphasized the significance of Test cricket, claiming that the format fully evaluates a player’s talent and is the purest form of the game. He also pointed out that a player featuring in red-ball cricket earns a lot of respect and honor. Garg has stated his ambition to begin his senior international career for India by playing the game’s longest format.

In a conversation with India TV Cricket, Priyam Garg revealed his desire to feature in Test cricket for India. “Test cricket is the first international format that I wish to play. You gain respect once you start playing Test cricket. The format tests your potential and talent,” said Priyam Garg.

Garg has represented India at the U-19 and U-23 levels. He has been brilliant with the bat for Uttar Pradesh in first-class cricket and would look to continue his performances to earn a place in India’s Test side in the future.

In 12 matches at first-class level, Garg has scored 867 runs at an average of 66.69 including two hundreds and five fifties. Also, he represents Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League. It is a known fact that IPL has been a massive platform for youngsters to showcase their skills and compete with the best. Several young players have earned their national cap owing to their performances in the IPL.

However, Garg opines that domestic cricket plays an equal role for a player to attain success at the international level. Comparing the importance of both domestic cricket and IPL on the career of an Indian player, Garg states that a good performance in domestic cricket makes it easier to play well in the international arena.

“I think both domestic cricket and IPL are equally important for me. Domestic cricket has different challenges. If you do well in domestic cricket, you get a chance in the IPL. In my opinion, if you perform well in domestic matches, it will be easier for you when you play at the international level,” continued Priyam Garg.

“Sometimes, you do not get enough opportunities in the IPL. But in domestic cricket, you get the chance to prove yourself. Thus, I give equal importance to both,” added Priyam Garg.
