“We’ll see who goes to play IPL over PSL” – Ramiz Raja clarifies difference between IPL and PSL

Ramiz Raja

Ramiz Raja, chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), recently spoke about revamping the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in order to change the preference of overseas players over the Indian Premier League (IPL). His comments were widely condemned by Indian cricket fans, and they came at a time when the BCCI was negotiating the highly lucrative IPL media rights. However, on Sunday, the PCB chairman clarified his remark that “we’ll see who goes to play the IPL over the PSL.”

Ramiz Raja was quoted as saying in an interview last month, “This is a money game. Our respect will grow as Pakistan’s cricket economy grows. The PSL is the primary driver of that financial economy. If we move the PSL to an auction model and increase the purse, I’ll place it in the IPL bracket. Then we’ll see who chooses the IPL over the PSL.”

Speaking to Cricbuzz on Sunday, the former Pakistan cricketer admitted that he had been misquoted and that he is aware of the economic differences between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Ramiz Raja is set to formally present the proposal for a “four-nation tournament” involving India, Pakistan, Australia, and England at the International Cricket Council (ICC) board meeting in Dubai next week.

“I’m not sure how the ICC members will react to it,” Raja told Cricbuzz. “How long can we allow ourselves to be dictated by politics between countries?” “At the most recent ICC board meeting, Star Sports stated that the India-Pakistan game at the Twenty20 World Cup broke all viewership records. Why aren’t we getting more of what the fans want?”
